    COMING TUESDAY: Obama's Deal
Airs Nov. 2nd at 9PM ET (check local listings)

WATCH ONLINEThe president called it "historic" and spent much of his first year pushing health care reform legislation through Congress. But his opponents branded it "Obamacare," and it's now driving a midterm election backlash. Why has the change that candidate Obama promised in 2008 left Americans so deeply divided?

In Obama's Deal, re-airing this Tuesday night, veteran FRONTLINE producer Michael Kirk (The Warning), finds the roots of the current divide in the behind-the-scenes process that it took to pass one of the most significant pieces of legislation in American history.

Through interviews with administration officials, senators, and Washington lobbyists, Obama's Deal reveals how an idealistic president decided to pursue the health care fight despite the warnings of many of his closest advisers. The film also shows how, in the end, a pragmatic president, facing stiff resistance even from within his own party, cut deals with many of the powerful special interests he had so determinedly campaigned against.

The Boston Globe said of the film: "FRONTLINE gives us the large themes and nasty fights ... anyone remotely interested in big-time, hardball legislative politics should watch."

We hope you'll join us for Tuesday night's broadcast -- and on our website check out what others thought of this report.

  2. Dear Democratic Congress,

Please don't cut PBS's funding for sending out trailers like this via email, the medium that launched a thousand Obamas, i.e., whatever you wanted him to be, if you actually win a majority in the midterm election. We know corporations are people, too, and that you not only love corporations who make campaign contributions but actually have been known to have sex with them, metaphorically of course, but so are we, i.e., the people, too.
